Abstract

Dr. Naheed Shahid was a well known poet, writer, critics and scholar of Punjabi language. He was a famous radio broadcaster in early eighties. He is considered a unique poet because of his symbolic poetry which was mainly inspired by great sufi poets of Punjabi language. He was socially active person and due to that his poetry interprets many social issues. Through his poetry, he lives in current times and serves Punjabi language whole heartedly. He uses ‘patan’, ‘tara’, ‘jhakkar’, ‘thall’, ‘rukh’, ‘sooraj’, ‘diva’, ‘heer’ as symbols of hope, courage, bravery and highlights different problems that one faces during life time. In this article, these poetic symbols have been evaluated in the light of sociology.
