Abstract

Language is considered the best medium of expression. Every language of the world has its own identity in terms of its structure and usage. Urdu and Punjabi belong to the same family of languages, due to which they have a lot of commonalities. Despite this, the relationship between the two languages is seen through differences. Both languages are languages with high literary traditions and an atmosphere of cooperation and harmony is created through mutual translations between them. According to some researchers, Urdu is derived from the Punjabi language, but some deny this concept on linguistic grounds. Urdu has become the language of communication in Pakistan due to which there is a need to strengthen its relationship with other Pakistani languages. The more sustainable and free from differences this relationship is, the more it will help in the development of Urdu and Pakistani languages. By promoting mutual commonalities between Urdu and Punjabi language, both languages can be brought closer so that their speakers can benefit from the knowledge and literature available in both languages. In this article, linguistic and historic relation of Urdu and Punjabi language has been analyzed in terms of their beginning.
